This compilation of the Zappone and Related Families of Caserta, Italy, focuses primarily on the Zappone Family, and on my
other ancestral families from Caserta (Brancaccio, Brignola, Denza, Di Stasio, Farina, Fusco, Gentile,
Ianniello, Malatesta, Olivieri, Rosetti, Sacco, Varrone, Zampella, Zona). It also includes families of Caserta, Italy, into
which members of the these families married. Note that for these purposes Caserta includes Tuoro, Garzano, Centurano, San Clemente, and several other villages and neighborhoods. This compilation is a working draft, updated on 10 October 2022. First, much information is missing. For Tuoro, I have examined the birth, death, and marriage records from 1820 through 1910, and the marriage processetti records from 1820 through 1865 (records for Tuoro events between 1809 through 1819 are in the Caserta registers). For San Clemente, I have examined the birth, death, and marriage records from 1820 through 1910, and the marriage processetti records from 1820 through 1865 (records for San Clemente events between 1809 through 1819 are in the Caserta registers). For Caserta itself, I have examined the birth and death records from 18809 through 1819, the marriage records for 1809, 1813, 1815, 1816, 1820 through 1851, 1853, and 1854 (there are missing registers, but the information was found in the corresponding marriage processetti registers), and the marriage processetti records from 1809 through 1860. Second, at some point I will continue by examining the Caserta birth and death records from 1820 through 1865, the marriage processetti records from 1861 through 1865, and try to find additional registers for Caserta onwards from 1865, and Tuoro and San Clemente onwards from 1910. Third, though marriage processetti records contain some church records from before 1810, it would be helpful to have a systematic review of the pre-1810 church records but that is not something I can do online. Fourth, I have also attempted to bring some of the family lines up to date in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, though there are limitations on preparing a full update, because of restricted records and lack of contacts with most descendants of these Caserta families. Bringing these lines up-to-date is another future task, though I invite those who are willing to do so to share whatever research they have on those lines. The information from the systematic reading of the Tuoro and San Clemente birth, marriage, marriage processetti, and death registers has been underway for almost a decade. Information from eighteenth and ninetennth church registers for some of my direct ancestors in Caserta, was provided by Melanie D. Holtz, CG, as noted in specific entries in the database. The author's notes are included. In many instances, these are in rough or abbreviated form. Most abbreviated references are self-explanatory, but others are not. There surely are errors, as I have not yet methodically checked for duplicates. There are errors by clerks, there are erros by informants, there are errors in what I have read, particularly when registers are damaged or the handwriting is faint or illegible. Some records, as noted above, are missing. There also are many inconsistencies between what the registers show and what people have been told by family members or have entered into records in places other than Caserta. Usually these discrepancies are mentioned in the notes. Variations in the spelling of surnames is widespread. For example, Varrone also appears as Varone. Bad handwriting conflates Varone with Vanore. Denza also appears as D'Enza. Zona appears as Dizone, Dizzone, Di Zone, Di Zona, to mention four of the variations. Ianniello also appears as Iannielli, Ianiello, and Iannelli, to mention just three variations. Zampella occasionally appears as Zambella. Sometimes the spelling changes in the same document or same set of documents. Similar issues with respect to first names also are evident. For persons born after 1919, no information other than names is provided unless the person is known to be deceased. Assistance is requested to add missing information and to identify errors. Per Tuoro, ho esaminato i documenti di nascita, morte e matrimonio dal 1820 al 1910, e gli atti di matrimonio processetti dal 1820 al 1865 (gli atti di Tuoro tra il 1809 e il 1819 sono nel registri di Caserta).
